WFM Arshiya Das, daughter of Mrs. Arnisha Nath Das and Sri Purnendu Das born in 2010 in Agartala, Tripura, began her chess journey at the age of five. She played her first tournament at Naba Diganta Club, where she received the "Youngest Player" award. At six, she secured 10th place in the National U-7 Girls Chess Championship 2016, marking the start of her dedication to the game. Recently, Arshiya earned her first WIM norm and made history by becoming the first and only girl from the entire North-East to receive the prestigious Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title from FIDE.
Her achievements include multiple international medals, such as Gold and Bronze at the Asian School Chess Championship 2019 in Uzbekistan, Silver and multiple Golds at the 2024 Western Asian Youth Championship and Commonwealth Chess Championships in Sri Lanka, and national honors like a Bronze in the National U-7 Girls (2017) and Gold in the National U-9 Girls School Championship (2019).
She has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2021, Tripura Bhushan (2021), and the National Youth Icon Award (2025). Arshiya has also been honored as the Best Chess Player of the Year by the Tripura Sports Journalists Club multiple times.
